USAU Memberships

Its that time of year again, time to sign up for a USAU membership. USAU membership is a requirement in order to play in VA States, Southerns, and several of the other tournaments our Woodside teams attend each spring. Each December USAU make that a little easier with their December deal, $25 for a youth membership, the price goes up Jan. 1. So everyone should take a few minutes to sign up, ask for it as a Christmas present if you want, but get it taken care of now while it is cheaper. You can sign up HERE.

Ultimate Gift Hat Tournament

The Ultimate Gift hat tournament is a fun 1 day event sponsored by Savage Ultimate! Its a great chance to play some Ultimate and also help out those in need as part of the entry fee is a toy which goes to Toys for Tots. The tournament will be held at Nike Park in Carrollton, VA on December 15th, the cost is $10 plus the toy. You can register HERE. There is also a Facebook Page for the event. Fall Season Winding Down

Our fall season is winding down, but we still have some events coming up and things to take care of.

Attendance is still extremely important, if you stop coming now you will not get the biggest discount possible on jerseys. We will also be giving out a couple small prizes at the last practice based on who works hardest and represents Woodside Ultimate the best from Tuneup through the end of the year.

1. Everyone needs to finish paying their fall dues. Final payment is due Dec. 2

2. Varsity has a Scrimmage on Dec. 7 against CNU. Players need to be at the field in front of the Ferguson Center at 9:15am to warmup.

3. Everyone needs to get their jersey information in the Google Document so we can put in the order, get exact pricing, and start collecting money.

4. There is a hat tournament at Nike Park on Dec. 15, running from 9am check in until sometime in the mid afternoon dependent on the number of players. This is a great chance to play and we strongly recommend everyone signs up. Cost is $10 and a toy which will go to Toys for Tots. Here is the Facebook Event where you can get more details.

Several of Woodside's clubs and athletic teams have signed up to hand out candy that night. We need players to let us know if you will be able to help by handing out candy at the game. 2013-14 Jerseys

We will be getting a complete set of jerseys (white and dark) and shorts this year. They will be coming from Savage Ultimate who is the official Woodside Ultimate sponsor and tournament merchandiser. The cost will be $80 for the set. We have come up with several ways to offset the cost of these new uniforms though.

1. In order to better support our tournaments you can get a $15 credit toward jerseys by a parent or player volunteering at one of our tournaments. Players that attend one of the college tournaments we host and help with setup and running of the tournament or their parents who attend one of the college tournaments or our HS tournament and help with setup and running of the tournament will receive a 1 time $15 credit toward jerseys.

2. We will be keeping an attendance log at practice, players will receive a discount on the jerseys based on their attendance. Players attending 100% of practices (including valid excuses) will receive the largest discount with reduced amounts after that. The attendance scale will go like this:
100% of practices = $40
90% of practices = $35
80% of practices = $30
70% of practices = $25
60% of practices = $15
50% or less of practices = $10

With these 2 offsets players will be able to get jerseys for as low as the cost of printing, $25, with good attendance.

Fall 2013 Dues

Dues this fall will be $60 for Varsity, $50 for Girls, $50 for JV.

This year we will be changing how we collect dues. We will have 3 deadlines with a portion of dues owed by each date. You can pay all at once or you can pay the designated amount by each date, players will only be eligible for tournaments if they are up to date though. The date for payment will be as follows.
  • Payment 1 - $20 (all) - Friday, October 4, 2013
  • Payment 2 - $20 (V), $15 (J, G) - Friday, November 1, 2013
  • Payment 3 - $20 (V), $15 (J, G) - Friday, December 6, 2013
In addition to help reduce costs and better support our tournaments you can get a $10 credit toward dues by a parent or player volunteering at one of our tournaments. Players that attend one of the college tournaments we host and help with setup and running of the tournament or their parents who attend one of the college tournaments or our HS tournament and help with setup and running of the tournament will receive a 1 time $10 credit toward player dues.

    YULA Stats

Stats from this weekends YULA Invite up in Arlington. 2-4 wasn't a great final record but two 1 point losses and two 2 point loses means we were competitive the whole time and it could have gone either way. Turnover ratio was less than 1 per point which is also good, but we can continue to focus on good decisions and reduce that further.

    TYUL Camp

    White Jerseys and Shorts

White Jerseys and Shorts information must be complete by Tuesday March 19, 2013!

Please click this link for the Google Spreadsheet and fill in your information for White Jerseys and Shorts. Since we ordered Dark Jerseys in the Fall this will only be for Whites and Shorts, if you didn't get a Dark talk to the coaches there are a few extras for both guys and girls, extra darks will be $36.

The price for whites and shorts will be $25 per item, so if you get just a white jersey or just shorts you will owe $25, if you get both you will owe $50. The sooner you fill out the form and pay the sooner we get these ordered and have them to wear. If you already have the white jersey or the shorts then you don't need to order them again, just fill in your number nothing else.

All varsity and Girls who we expect to go to Southerns need to have matching uniforms as required by USAU for the tournament, players on those teams make sure you have both the Full-Sublimated Dark and a White and Shorts.

We have a few extra full sets of girls jerseys (old style dark and white) and shorts from years past, these can be had for $60. You would still need the Full-Sub Dark.

Drafter Schedule for this weekends Woodside Invite can be found on Score Reporter.

    Tuesday, March 5, 2013

    Girls Tourney Info Pt. 1

Expected start time on Saturday is 10am. We need to meet at Woodside at 4:45am and leave at 5:00am, this should afford us time to make a stop along the way and warm up when we get there.

The fields are Northeast Park - 3421 Northeast Park Drive, Gibsonville, NC 27249.

There is no definite schedule yet, and Saturday may turn into a hat tournament or clinic with games only on Sunday. Keep checking back in case our departure time changes.

All girls need to either have an up to date USAU membership, or complete the 1 time event form (get it from Chappell) and pay the $7 fee. If you plan on playing in upcoming tournaments like YULA Invite, States, and Southerns just go do the membership it will be cheaper for you that way.

Any girls attending just this weekend to and not playing going forward will need to do the 1 time event form and pay $20 to help cover hotel, van, gas, etc. expenses. If you change your mind and keep playing your $20 will be applied to your dues.

    Tuesday, February 12, 2013

    Wolfpack Invite Update

We will be leaving for the Wolfpack Invite at 4:45am on Saturday morning, everyone needs to be at Woodside at 4:30am so that we can get on the road at 4:45am so we can get to the fields with time to warm up.

The fields are Method Road Soccer Fields on the NC State Campus, they are on the corner of Method Rd. and Ligon St. I don't have an exact address beyond that, based on the map 800 Method Road should get you really close.

We are staying at the Wingate by Wyndham - State Arena, 6115 Corporate Ridge Rd, 27607. The phone number is 1-919-809-8660.

Schedule should be available on Wednesday so we will have a better idea of return time on Sunday. Early guess would be between 8-9pm.

Players check the weather, its supposed to be cool, chance for some showers on Saturday and breezy on Sunday. Pack accordingly.

    Booster/Parent Meeting Recap

    • The meeting was called to order at 6pm
    • Schedule: We discussed the schedule for the spring, you can see the complete schedule on the Ultimate Calendar. The big question marks right now are 1. will weather hold up to allow the local division of YULA Invite to occur which will allow JV to attend, 2. What date will Shore Tour occur and will they host a girls division again. 3. Who will host this years VA State Tournament - Woodside or LC Bird.
    • Dues: We discussed Spring Dues, at this time we are working to overcome the loss of revenue caused by the rain reschedule of our fall college tournament. We also have to plan assuming we will be traveling to States since we do not know otherwise at this time. As such we are expecting to be much shorter on funds than we were last year. We laid out 2 scenarios during the meeting, the first where dues would be higher now ($60-Var/Girls, $50-JV) the second where dues would be lower now ($50-Var/Girls, $40-JV) but we might have to ask for a second fee at the end of the year. With a nearly unanimous vote the higher initial fee was approved. As discussed this does not cover the per player fee charged by USAU for Southerns, that will be dealt with if we receive a bid. If you need to split the payment into installments of $30 a couple times or $20 3 times that is fine and we are happy to work with you just have your child discuss with Coach Chappell or Coach Richard.
    • USA Ultimate Dues: As always all players are required to be up to date members of USAU in order to play in VA State and in Varisty's case in order to play in the college tournaments. You can go to the USAU Website and signup/renew, you also need to complete the online waiver at that time. Varsity needs to complete this by Feb. 27, everyone else needs to complete it as soon as possible.
    • Jerseys: We will be putting up a Google Spreadsheet shortly with jersey information. You will need to fill in your name, size, number in the document. We will set a date for when this must be completed by and will give an update of the cost as soon as we get the information from Spin. We will be reordering whites, and shorts, we did darks in the fall. If you already have a white with the vertical woodside logo or shorts then you won't need to order unless you want a new one. Please note players at Southerns are required to have matching uniforms!
    • Practice/School: In reference to practice we asked everyone to please attend practice as much as possible, we as a team only improve as much as we practice together. We do understand that school comes first and if your child can't attend because they are getting class work in line that is totally understandable. We will be having players run for grades sometime in the coming week.
    • Southerns: We have limited details for Southerns right now, just a date and location, we expect to hear on if we are accepted or not sometime in mid-late March. At that time we will have a meeting for the parents/players who will be attending and discuss details further.
    • Middle School Ultimate: We have been in contact with the middle schools which feed Woodside, we would like to find a way to get Ultimate into their PE curriculum's. We have had some positive response and hope to arrange for us to bring a few of our Senior players to the middle schools to talk about Ultimate and give a short presentation. Hopefully we will have more details coming soon.
    • Player Contact Info: We are asking all players to send Coach Chappell a text with their name so he can rebuild his phone database. Please send him a text at 757-952-7067. Any parents who would like to do the same thing so you can be in touch if needed feel free to do so.
    • Meeting adjourned 6:45pm
